Is this is a 'jam' piece, with each artist drawing their respective characters? 'Cause Star Brand is definitely JR.Jr., but the others look more like John Romita Sr. or the other title-specific artists drew 'em (esp. Paul Ryan on the far right).

WOW, you mean I'm not the only one that loved this ad. I remember seeing this in one of my cousins old Firestorm comics, and just loving it. That next Wednesday, I bought a stack of Who's Who back issues from the LCS, and started collecting DC books. Man, I wish I could get a good sized poster print of this.

Thanks for this! This brings back memories - I bought MAN OF STEEL #1 the week it came out, of course, and remember my 7th grade art teacher asking me about it. The reporter is pretty hilarious in this. Such a terrific book and miniseries; this was Byrne when he was still firing on all cylinders.

Niiiice - I also remember having a subscription to the Comics Buyers Guide (weekly newsprint newspaper with exclusive news in the comics/geek world). Also Amazing Heroes and The Comics Journal for news. The Amazing Heroes annual Preview issue would tease storylines for the coming year and always blew my mind! It was a VERY different world pre-internet, in terms of how to get your comics/geek/pop culture news... scattered news stories, as you rightly point out, and such.

Also, I remember being at an office job around 1997 and being on the then-primitive internet and seeing - for the first time - Aint It Cool News. I liked it - but the design/layout was awful. Back then it was very blocky and had a backdrop black & white still of a shot from King Kong (Kong vs. the dinosaur) as the background.

I just wrote a blog entry about this video and turned up your piece while researching some info. Truly a video I wish I could forget about, and I can't believe in hindsight that MTV even aired it. I talk about the Iron Sheik's great line in my post at http://bostongardenbalcony.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/next-time-you-think-the-wwe-tv-product-is-bad-watch-%e2%80%9cland-of-a-thousand-dances%e2%80%9d/ .

Interesting. I bought that series, but I've never seen this ad before. "8 issue mini-series" it says. I only ever saw 3 issues published, although some sources said there were 4 for a while.

That was one of my most well remembered storylines of 80's Daredevil. When people talk of Daredevil in the 80's you typically only hear mention of Frank Miller. That is a serious injustice, because Ann Nocenti's run was just as good, in my opinion. Remember, the Rot Gut story in Daredevil? That is another one that has always stuck in my mind.
